To ensure the quality of network,the network planning plays a key role. As the radio side planning is desive to the construction investment and the network quality, the CN network planning is often neglected. However, the CN network planning is very important for the OPEX and the network stability and robust. Therefore, this thesis focuses on WCDMA R4 Core Network planning.After introduced the related technology and theory, some important principles are determined in this thesis: IP Network is used for service bearer, TDM Network is used for signaling bearer; MGW is the stepless structure, MSC Server is flattening in a local network, while the nation carries on the gathering through CMN; HSTP/LSTP structure is used in the signaling network.According to the device function, the backup methods of various device are described in this thesis . In CS domain, MSC use N+1 backup method, HLR is 1:1 host prepares. In PS domain , GGSN use N+1 backup way.Of course, the device establishment threshold and the formula of the interfaces flow rate are also described in the thesis.According to the market forecast, the WCDMA R4 core network plan is completed ,which includes the device number, the establishment way, the bandwidth of bearing network and so on. Depend on the result,the operator can do a newly WCDMA Core network construction.
