It resolves the problem that internal organizational instant messaging software can't communicate with external systems. It provides users with good interface by using the technology without refresh. And it is convenient just like client IM software through storing friend lists and messages.Firstly, the advantages and disadvantages of B/S mode are analysis compared with C/S. After that, the advantages of B/S are emphasized. It introduces four protocols of IM, and then describes the Jabber protocol exactly..Then, this paper researches WIM's implement strategies and handling mechanism based on the main function of WIM. This system is divided into four parts. They are Web Client, Local Server, Web Service and Jabber Server. The function of each part is described in detail. After that, the system's design is identified.At last, the theory of Web Instant Messaging that this paper is concerned is applied in a specific WIM system. Making a great afford to design the server and the client of this system exactly, a WIM system which has basic function is present, which verifies the correctness of the theory.
