2D Barcode PDF417 Recognition Using Microcontroller

Two-dimensional barcode recognition is the major research of Computer Automatic Identification Technology nowadays. Image-based barcode readers are one of the focuses of research. Because the computations of 2D barcode recognition, current readers use CCD camera and high-performance embedded processer or digital signal processer to construct recognition system. This thesis described a low cost 2D barcode recognition system using microcontroller. This system is based on eCOG1X MCU, using OV7760 CMOS camera which is a designed for safety and image recognition to sample barcode image, combined with high-speed SDRAM and external flash. This system realized efficient requisition of barcode data and real-time processing.PDF417 barcode recognition algorithm has been relatively mature, it's still a hot research point but adopted by different hardware platforms. Consider system in this paper using rather slow MCU, in order to achieve the real-time processing of bar codes, improving the speed and at the mean time maintain the stability of algorithm become crucial. On the base of current recognition algorithm, this article introduced a method of fast locating the transition between the elements of barcode, greatly reduced the amount of barcode recognition computation. After in-depth studying of PDF417 scanning algorithm, the thesis created adaptive scanning algorithm, enhanced the utilization rate of image data. For the code matrix initialization, also introduced a simplified initialization algorithm, which further enhanced the recognition speed. Finally, this system has been successfully completed. The realized system based on MCU maintained a good recognition rate and recognition speed.This 2D barcode recognition system has hardware structure relatively simple, low-cost and good scalability features, has a good market prospects and promotion value.
