NMT (Non-orthogonal Multi-modulation Technology) is originally invented by Professor Dequn Liang as a brandnew multicarrier digital modulation technology, which broke through the traditional orthogonal limitation and developed the digital communication modulation in both principle and method. Theory study shows that NMT could breakthrough Nyquist rate and provide with a better bandwidth utilization than the existing modulation method (such as QAM, DMT and OFDM). Completed computer simulations via ADSL, ADSL, #5 cable LAN, wireless and satellite already proved the huge advantages of NMT in boosting transmission rate and diatance. It requires experiment on actual line to further validate the feasibility of NMT. Therefore, NMT physical prototype is developed to support the physical experiment of NMT.There are two schemes for developing physical prototype: one is based on the SEED-DEC6713 development board and a self-made AFE(Analog Front End), another is based on the SignalWAVe development board developed by Lyrtech Company. Software design involved PC programmes, DSP programmes and FPGA firmware programmes. In this thesis, there is a detail about the hardware architecture and the NMT physical prototype design in both hardware and software. Meanwhile, it brought forward some key techniques in the design of hardware and software, and completed NFDM algorithm with DSP as well.Under the support of NMT physical prototype, NMT transmission experiment was compared with OFDM via 100meter-#5 cable LAN. The results of experiment proved the system hardware platform is successfully developed and the prototype worked normally, reliably and steadily. Furthermore, it proved engineering feasibility and advantages of NMT, which provide theoretical and practical experience for the future practical engineering and provide technical support for the manufacture.
