This paper is based on the bidding project of AS 620 system of Siemens Company in China which needs to be improved. The object of the paper is how to build a reliable and high speed network communication network between and how to confirm the reliability of the system. The AS 620 system requires high reliability. There are two designing cases for reliability: fault avoiding and fault-tolerance. Fault-tolerance will improve reliability from the structure of system. It is a feasible plan of reliable system design facing application. And so using fault-tolerance to design the system is an effective way to improve reliability of system.The paper firstly chiefly introduces Siemens AS 620 system. That includes communication principle between modules and system reliability. Secondly, introduces the module designation of the system. The whole system includes the EU901 power, the EU901 controller, the IM614 power, CAN and Ethernet etc. About each part, the paper give the perfect designation. The I/O planks are connected with the IM614 with two CAN field buses, so that the communication is guaranteed. The communication between IM614 and AP is realized by quoting Ethernet.In respect of reliability, the paper is based on Siemens IM614 hardware redundancy. Through realizing the hot-plugging technology, the fault module can be repaired on the spot. These improved thereby greatly the systematic reliability and average non-malfunction time. The system has also adopt the inside hardware redundancy technology about EU901 power, the CAN fieldbus, the Ethernet interface etc. this technology has improved systematic reliability further.
