Fluorescence fiber, a special kind of fiber doped with rare-earth elements in the fiber core, has been investigated widely and plays an ever-increasingly important role in the recent years in the fields of fiber communications and fiber sensors, because of the unique qualities of various rare-earth elements besides their common features. Moreover, some communications equipments and sensors made of fluorescence fiber have already been applied in practice.Strain measurement is one of the most important fiber sensing application areas. It is a sticking point that eliminating the influence of temperature during designing sensors. Because fluorescence fiber behave the strong sensitivity of temperature, It became a choice to measure temperature. To use the fluorescence fiber to compensate temperature in strain measurement, it is necessary to test the characteristics s of strain response of the fluorescence fibers. The strain response of the fluorescence lifetime is tested at a constant temperature with the fluorescence lifetime as the sensing parameter. Based on established theoretical analysis, the characteristic of fluorescence fiber's strain response is analyzed preliminarily according to experimental data. In addition, some research work has been done on fabrication and spectrum analysis of the fluorescence fiber gratings.
