With the rapid development of Internet, the demand for network services and applications are currently becoming higher, and the traditional computing mode such as Client/Server(C/S), Brower/Server (B/S) can not satisfy them. Because P2P technology can well meet those demands due to its characteristics such as self-organization, decentralization and node acting as client and server simultaneously, it has been widely used in different field and the research is deepen.Anysee++ is a P2P based real media streaming system designed for video broadcast and instant message, which results in many flows coexisting inside it. Considering monitoring is an important problem needed to be solved in P2P system and the problems Anysee++ is facing, we propose an independent hierarchical tree structure for monitoring, which is locality-aware. The monitoring data flow is separated from other data flows existing in the system, which simplifies the system architecture and make maintenance easy. We also design the related algorithms and protocols. As a part of Anysee++, the design and implementation of its monitoring system are discussed, including objectives, functions and data structures. We also discuss the design and implementation of data merging protocol which greatly decreases network overhead, the workload of each node and the workload of the console associated with the separate monitoring hierarchical tree structure.Through analysis and performance test, the monitoring system which adopts the structure and protocol proposed above can well accommodate to the randomicity and dynamic scalability of P2P network.
