The NC simulation technology plays a very important role in CAD/CAM and has been the focus since 1970's. With development of computer and NC simulation technology, the method of the simulation is being changed from pure software simulation to hardware-in-the-loop (HWIL) simulation. This thesis presents the design and implementation of a CNC simulation system with hardware-in-the-loop. The system includes a hardware control subsystem and software simulation subsystem. The hardware subsystem is used to simulate the manipulation of a NC machine, and the software subsystem is used to simulate the process of machining. The total system, working through communication and collaboration between the software and the hardware, can achives a complete process of maniplulating a CNC machine. The main result of the system involve is as follows:1. The hardware subsystem is designed and implemented. This includes the design of a control panel, a handwheel to manipulate the machine, and the related waresets. The hardware forms the based for the CNC simulation system with HWIL.2. The software subsystem is developed. This program, adopted with MDI structure and multi-thread technologies, can exhibit multi-views of machining together with the process of parameter-edit, machine adjustment, measure enviroment and so on. The software communicated and collaborated with the hardware sets, can display the machining process and other CNC features excellently.3. The communicating interfaces between the hardware sets and the software are designed and implemented. This enables the total system to work according to the human's manipulations.4. A new technology for building the solid models in the simulation is put forward. By the method, a complex subtracting Boolean operation can be changed into simple subtracting and addition operation. This can greatly improve the computing efficiency, especially in simulation the cutting of a screw.
