With the development of economy, science and technology, people pay more attention to monitor safety of long-span bridges, which plays important role in social stability and has great influence on people's lives and properties. Therefore, safety monitoring and scientific management are important measures to guarantee bridge safty. As an important index of bridge construction safety, bridge deflection has been always studied by professional bridge engineers, and many effective measurement methods have been put forward. However, there are also many inadequacies in measuring deflection of long-span arch bridge. The paper will be elaborated on above issues. The main contents are as follows:(1) The state-of-the-art of deflection monitoring technology and its features of bridge in the world were summarized and explained.(2) The corresponding deflection equations were presented based on deflection theory and elasticity theory according to three kinds of common arch bridge.(3) The method of measuring bridge deflection with electronic level was introduced. The precision was also analyzed. The precision characteristic was checked by engineering project.(4) The method of measuring bridge deflection with total station was introduced. The precision was also analyzed. The precision characteristic was checked by engineering project.(5) The connected pipes method was summaried firstly. A new technique to solve the high differential elevation issue based on connected pipes principle and pressure transmitter was presented. Different components of the system were introduced in detail. The precision of this method was analyzed.
