The financial field is the key area of software technology application. Information technology plays a decisive role on enterprises' operation, development and management. As the financial field has a long history of using IT technology, there are large numbers of software systems, and along with the ever-increasing business logic, software systems become more difficult to understand, and higher cost to maintain. Software re-engineering switches the existing system to a new form of software to enhance the performance and quality, reduces software maintenance costs. This paper presents an idea of software re-engineering by merging with other systems.Clone code causes software maintenance a lot of trouble. Clone detection helps to find the clone code between two systems. Except for this part of clone code, we tend to find the different codes on the two systems, then sum up the difference on function, which is helpful to understand the original software, develop and maintain the follow-up work. There is a high percentage of clone code between two systems that origin from the same code, so the two can be merged into one in order to improve the maintainability. Clone code in one system also provides opportunities for potential re-engineering. The existing clustering algorithm can be used to extract the legacy system of modular information. Merge should be found a matched module in the target system, and realize the functions of the original system. This paper introduces the specific merging process of software systems, which is a method of software re-engineering. Here also analyzes and discusses some problems that should be resolved, and provides ideas about the future research work.
