With the development of the medical equipment and the accelerated processof the medical information,the application of the image processing tech-nique,which has been processed in the medical assistant diagnose,is used widely.Medical image processing,which applies image processing technique in medical analysis and diagnose, is an important application area in image processing.Through computerintellectualized processing of medical image and information,we can discard traditional macrography and subjective judgement.We can analyze,compute and process pixels of images in virtue of computer technique,and then we will get all of the correlative data which supports medical diagnose with more objective information.Medical image processing technique is useful for enhancing veracity and time efficiency of medical diagnose.Image is the important instrument for information visualization.A piece of medical image supports doctors with assistant diagnose and cure information in intuitionistic form.Especially,salted radio-experts and clinicians can get useful informationfrom these images.Howerver,factors like imaging equipment and gaining conditions would lead up to degeneration of image quality and false edges.Even for high quality images,it is difficult to make effective diagnose through macrography.People with different capabilities and backgrounds could get different results from the same image.Methods of image improvement like convolution and local operators,which belong to instrumental improvement techniques,are irrelated to images themselves.The image processing techniques that we cull would be more effective if we start with characteristics of the images. Image segmentation is crucial to capture quantitative information contained in peculiar structures of images.Common image segmentation methods include image segmentation based on threshold chosen,segmentation based on blur corre-lation,alternant image segmentation,segmentation based on dualistic character-istics,etc.We can select different segmentation methods in allusion to different images and characteristics of objects to segment.In this paper,the problem we need to resolve is how to calculate the volumeof water on the cartilage based on CT images whose sizes are of 170 xxxxxxx 114 pixels.There are 188 pieces of images and the distance between two images is of 0.5mm. For calculating the volume,we first studied several methods of image improvement, such as histogram equalization,unsharp masking, neighborhood averagingand median filtering ,and algorithms of image segmentation based thresholdchosen.Moreover,we realized them by computer.After compare of these algo-rithms,we selected median filtering and binary numerical value method to segment images to get the area where the water on the cartilage was.In the end,we put forward a formula as below to calculate the volume and received a pleasant re-sult. V≈(?)(areai×distance×zoom).In the formula,areai = ni/170×114×area0represents the area of segmentation region of the ith image and n represents the number of CT images.distance represents the distance between two adjacent layers.
