It is well known that the bandwidth of the wireless channel is the most valuable resources in the whole wireless communication system. In order to utilize the limited wireless resources efficiently, the header's overhead introduced by transmission protocols must be reduced by header compression. Through the significant reduction of the header size, for the same application we have a lower demand of bandwidth as well as greater efficiency and responsiveness. Robust Header Compression (ROHC) scheme has been proposed by the IETF working group in 2001, which aims at providing a compression scheme that has high compression efficiency and high robustness when used over wireless links.This thesis focuses on the research of ROHC algorithms.Based on the introduction of basic concept and technology of ROHC and the comprehensive analysis of ROHC algorithms, this thesis concluded the flow chart and basic modules of compression and decompression. The performance of ROHC is evaluated and the effect of the key parameters in U mode is studied. A new adaptive adjustment of the sliding window width in W-LSB encoding for ROHC is simulated. It has shown that the adaptive model works effective in wireless channels without the need to perform channel measurements.
