The development, characteristics and key techniques of a MIMO-OFDM system are introduced firstly in this paper. Then, synchronization algorithms of different MIMO-OFDM systems are discussed in detail, based on the introduction of MIMO-OFDM essential principles and analysis about the influence of synchronization error on the system. Aiming at the centralized MIMO-OFDM system, a new training sequence structure is given. Each transmit antenna's training sequence is staggered in the frequency domain and Zadoff_Chu sequence is used as sub-carrier of the frequency domain, which makes the training sequence have favorable orthogonal performance in both time and frequency domain. The simulations indicate that the given synchronization scheme in this paper has low algorithm complexity and high estimate precision. As to the distributed MIMO-OFDM system, aiming at the traditional timing synchronization algorithm, which has low synchronization estimate accuracy in multi-path channel, the paper gives a kind of improved algorithm and compares with the primary algorithm. The simulation results show that the improved algorithm has a better synchronization performance than that of the primary algorithm in multi-path channel.
