As the rapid development of the wide-band wireless communication technology, the design of the wide-band antennas has been paid much more attention. This thesis mainly studies the development of wide-band omni-directional antennas and their realization. Two types of wide-band omni-directional antennas are simulated and verified.Firstly, based on the typical biconical antenna, a kind of wide-band omni-directional antennas, an improved biconical antenna is designed. By optimizing its structure, the antenna is simulated and fabricated. The measured results indicate that its VSWRs are less than 2 from 0.7GHz to 4.3GHz. Compared with the typical biconical antenna, the bandwidth is broader. Secondly, a novel design of a slot antenna fed by CPW is presented. The characteristics and advantages of the CPW and the slot antenna are analyzed. The model of the antenna is simulated, and a prototype is fabricated and measured. The measured results show that the relative bandwidth of the antenna is about 111%, which is from 4GHz to 14GHz. Moreover, the antenna has the advantages, such as the stable phase center, the low cross polarization levels.
