Projector-based Augmented Reality(PBAR) is one of the hottest research spots in the field of Augmented Reality(AR), which is directly augmentation to physical objects surface in the environment. Compared with head-attached or hand-held AR, PBAR has advantages like better augmented effect, more user freedom and widen field-of-view, which results in more researching and applications. However, recent research in spatial augmented reality mainly focus on optical rectification and geometry registration, few works are about human-computer interaction techniques in PBAR environment. With the increment of applications of projector-based spatial augmented reality, there is a higher standards and requirement of HCI techniques. From it, this paper imports Tangible User Interface (TUI) technique into PBAR to research HCI mode in such a special environment. The main idea of TUI is to map the physical objects in the real world with the virtual objects in the cyber-spapce, so that human can control the virtual objects by operating these physical objects which have coupled bit information. The thesis brings forward 3 types of HCI mode in PBAR environment: small-scale TUI HCI, mid-scale TUI HCI and entire TUI HCI. The design idea and implementation methods of these 3 modes all inherited from TUI theory and technology, with the differences in the physical scale of tangible objects. This thesis also analyzes the properties and application characteristic of different HUI mode.Main work about this thesis including following 4 aspects:(1) Explain the main idea and design pattern of small-scale TUI with a prototype system Xiyu.(2) Explain the main idea and design pattern of mid-scale TUI with a prototype system Qinyun. (3) Explain the main idea and design pattern of entire TUI with a prototype system Fuyun.(4) Assess of these 3 types of HCI from usability, effectiveness and learnability, with five indexes as Facility, Consistency, Interesting, Efficiency and Accuracy.
