Nowadays the scale of the Internet enlarges rapidly, and the demand for network width has been scaling up to an unbelievable degree. Dramatically increased amount of the World Wide Web users have brought more information servers online. Furthermore, the types of the network services have been largely increased, and the proportion of the multimedia technologies integrated by video and audio becomes larger. All these reasons have made the Internet traffic increase exponential times per year, and the demand for network width and network capacity become more urgent than ever.The deployment of DWDM technology in existing optical transport network meets the bandwidth requirement of Internet traffic. In network switching domain, optical burst switching offers all-optical, high-speed data rate, format transparent switching, which are essential characteristics to support future networks.We deeply research on key technology about OBS: Contention Resolution in Optical Burst Switching Network, for this topic is pivotal to OBS commercial application. Firstly, this thesis made a comprehensive and systematic research on the architecture of optical burst switching. Then, an improved wavelength scheduling algorithm FAFA-VF-BS and a new scheduling algorithm burst drop analysis model are put forward. We also analyze several data scheduling algorithms including FAFA-VF-BS using this new model. Then we perform simulation analysis, and the result shows that burst drop probability is closer to ErlangB theoretical lower limit. This thesis also designs an advanced routing path optimal algorithm based on the idea of balancing the network loads. The essence of the path optimization algorithm is to shift the traffic onto paths so as to reduce the load of least utilized ones, then we uses the software OPNET to simulate this algorithm and gained good performance results.
