At present, Ad hoc network has attracted more and more attention. In the field, there are several hot topics --- such as broadcast, routing and so on. In the paper, we conduct a deep and careful study on broadcast in Ad Hoc Network. Most current broadcast protocols are probability-based or area-based, but these protocols do not perform well in the aspects of delivery ratio and energy consumption. In addition, using directional antennas can help conserve bandwidth and energy consumption. However in Ad hoc Networks, limited research has focused on applying directional antennas into broadcat. In this paper, we take directional antannas into consideration when we design a broadcast protocol by the knowledge of 2-hop neighbour information named link reduction; consequently, the qualities of the networks --- energy consumption, redundancy ration, lifetime etc., are improved greatly. And we will introduce the main contents of the paper in details as follows: (1) Based on arithmetic of minimum spanning tree, the paper designs a broadcast protocol which outperforms most current ones. The broadcast protocol in the paper relies on no location information while it is based on 2-hop neigbour information, that is, the protocol is a localized one. The paper uses Prim to generate the minimum spanning tree and choose the forward directions and forward nodes in the tree. In addition, we also make a proof that the protocol achieves full delivery in ideal networks.(2) We do a simulation of the protocol proposed in the paper. In the paper, we make a comparison among transmission cost, redundancy ratio and lifetime of network between the protocol in the paper and DSP which is proved to be better than most others. Therefore the protocol we raise is probable and efficient.
