Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is receiving considerable attention nowadays as an enabling technology that can improve supply chain operations, asset tracking and inventory control. With the instant application of the object identification with radio frequency identification (RFID) technique, people are applying themselves to establish"the internet of things", this is the RFID information network. This network is to enable automatic unique identification of an item without manual intervention, storing all information about the item in a networked database, and ensuring reliable and timely update of information based on physical operations during the item's lifecycle, which will throw great revolutionary effect onto modern industry. This thesis discusses and designs the prototype of ONS (Object Name Service), which is the core service in RFID information network and still in discussion presently, will have great significance with no doubt. This thesis mainly discusses the design and implementation of ONS (Object Name Service) prototype based on DNS (Domain Name System). This thesis provides a systematic analysis to the EPC Network and the Object Naming Services (ONS), use the theory of LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) and DNS for reference, combining the homologous characteristics of DNS and ONS, constructs the extensible ONS system on BIND. When compared to the current solution of DNS from EPCGlobal, this implementation not only inherit the characteristics of simply, steadily and high efficiency, but adds supporting for extensible access control, distributed management system and secure resolution service to ONS system. This thesis introduces basic theories of DNS and the architecture of the prototype about ONS, and also provides a particular introduction to the principium and the protocols of ONS. Then we define the information model and the name model, together with the discussion of the implementation of this project. It will be a good help to widly development of practical ONS prototypes. At last the author gives his summarization of this ONS system, and points out some directions of future research.
