JPEG 2000 is a still image compression standard that adapt to the evolving image compression application. Wavelet transform is one of the core algorithms of JEPG 2000. Traditional wavelet analysis theory and lifting Traditional wavelet analysis theory are introduced in the first part of article. Wavelet transform is a time-frequency or space-frequency analysis method which can localize time or space and frequency. Multi-measure characteristic of wavelet transform adapt to visual mechanism of human and image information processing. Lifting wavelet transform is not a wavelet radix which is constituted of stretching, moving a mother wavelet function. Then it is a new wavelet transform method that can not uses Fourier transform as major analysis tool. Proposition of the lifting wavelet transform simplify the calculation of the wavelet transform greatly. So it is implicated extensively in the area of real-time signal processing. The general integral wavelet transform can be constructed by lifting arithmetic. Because the pictures normally express as a few bit of integer in circuit system, and an integral matrix of pictures can mapping an integral matrix of wavelet coefficient by integral wavelet transform, design of circuit system of lifting wavelet transform was simplified greatly. Today in background of digital era and information era, Applications in the image compressing filed of PLD that has high-speed processing has become a hot topic.This article discusses the realization of lifting wavelet transform in JPEG2000 base on FPGA which is a programmed logic device with high speed processing ability of hardware. The second generation wavelet transform, which base on the lifting wavelet transform, can realize the transform of integer to integer. The arithmetic of second generation wavelet transform has characteristics of parallel computation and former addresses computation which adopt to realize base on FPGA. The major works are as follows:Traditional wavelet analysis theory and lifting wavelet analysis theory are introduced in the first part of article. Include the characteristics of the local time-frequency of continuous wavelet, DWT coefficients significance. Multi-resolution analysis leads to the system method of construction of the wavelet and the fast algorithm of discrete wavelet, and introduced characteristics of a digital image in the wavelet domain. The basic idea of the lifting wavelet transform is discussed. Construction of wavelet using lifting algorithm and realization of traditional wavelet transform using lifting algorithm are discussed. Integer wavelet transform is discussed.The structure and the design flow of FPGA are introduced in the second part of article. FPGA is a high-density of PLD (Programmable Logic Device). As high integration, suitable convenience, period of development and coming into the market in short time, it is rapid that popularization and application of FPGA in Digital design field and electronic production field, and FPGA becomes a champion in high-density programmable logic devices field. Today in background of digital era and information era, Applications in the image compressing filed of PLD that has high-speed processing has become a hot topic.The last part of this article is the main content of this research, namely, one-dimensional transform module and two-dimensional transform module of the most crucial algorithm of JPEG 2000-1ifting wavelet transform. Two different structure of circuit is used to design one-dimensional lifting wavelet transform module, namely, serial pipeline structure of Low-power and low-speed and Parallel array structure of high-speed and high-power. Similarly, two different structure of circuit is used to design two-dimensional lifting wavelet transform module, namely, replicate structure of Low-power and low-speed and serial structure of high-speed and high-power. Different structure is applied in different field according reality.A lot of details of realization in FPGA of lifting wavelet transform are discussed in this part of article, and circuit diagrams of lifting wavelet transform module are given. The circuit diagrams are simulate. The results of simulation not only indicate the correctness of modules function, but also indicate the different wavelet module can satisfy different demands according real situation.
