The development of library management system has experienced the singlecomputer stage, the terminal/host computer stage, and the client/server stageunder the local area network. With the development of Internet technology,Browser/server architecture is increasingly becoming a replacement of C/Sarchitecture due to its advantage. A library management system, based on B/Sarchitecture, is easily deployed on the campus net or the Internet, andachieves expansibility and utility. By the browser, Users can inquire andbooking books, and librarians can also manage the books information andusers' information, and communicate on line with users. In the end, itimproves the work efficiency, simplifies the information management workprocess, causes standardized and scientific of management work.Recently, the development method of web-based application systemsachieves great attention. The main reason is the difference between web-basedapplication systems and traditional software development. Developmentmethods and technologies of traditional software engineering are not enoughfor web-based application systems. This paper described the development andimplementation methodology based on the software structure from softwarearchitecture and design patterns.Using the object-oriented design methodology and the UML modelinglanguage, the paper describes the software structure of library managementsystem, inluding the demand model, the function model, the structural model, the frame model and the dynamic model. According to the three-levelcharacteristics of B/S architecture, the system is implemented using theStruts frame, which is based on MVC pattern, and the characteristics ofreusability, security and support of classes in multi-type user interface. It improves work efficiency, reliability and security of system.
