Research Of The MLS Stabilization Test Method With Temperature Control

MLS stabilization test which tests MLS's stabilization in high temperature circumstances, is applied in the making up bitumen mixture design or the test of bitumen quality of highway construction. The testing data which are used as references when making up bitumen mixture in laboratory should be true and correct. At present, the test is applied in domestic highway construction widely.This investigation analyzes the required testing conditions under T0709-2000 MLS stabilization testing rules, then introduces the developing circumstances and inadequate of this test in internal highway construction.Presently, the automatic MLS stabilization test equipment is widely applied in this test, which eliminates the human influences and makes the testing conditions closer to the rules. The sensors are fixed on the mold which provides pressures to bitumen mixture during the test and couldn't be taken down from the equipment, which make mold temperature control impossible. At present, the MLS stabilization test gives up mold temperature survey and control, which results in test temperature doesn't reach rules.This paper defines the temperature influences to the correct of testing data on the basis of analyze and discussion, and introduces a new designed test equipment. It not only retains all functions of present equipment, but also adds a temperature survey and control part, which makes testing data more correct.Lastly, this paper analyzes the testing data which gets the results: the designed equipment has all functions of present, and the added temperature survey and control function has mostly reached the test temperature condition. So, the data tested by this equipment much closer to the T0709-2000 MLS stabilization testing rules. But for the restriction of test condition and the separation of bitumen, the investigation could not test the real bitumen mixture. On the basis of it, the research puts forward the task which could be kept on searching.
