Thoughts On "the Television Entertainment Program Craze Of China"

This thesis first gives a historical review of television entertainment programs,On the basis of which the author rationally analyzes the background of the entertainment program craze in the 1990s,and its characteristics and explore the social and historical cause of the phenomenon and other internal and external factors contributing to it, including the nature of television and technological advancement. The thesis is divided into two major parts: the first part elaborates on the development of the domestic and foreign television entertainment programs,starting with the defining of the concept of entertainment program. Then it describes the manifestations of entertainment program craze.The second part attempts to give a rational expounding and appraisal of the causes of entertainment progam craze from the perspectives of the nature of television,background of mass culture, features of cultural consumption, support of the technology advancement as well as the psychological demand of the audiences longing for revelry. In the concluding part,the author argues that since it is an undeniable fact that television has the entertainment function,and the appearance of entertainment program craze is the inevitable result of social progress and increasing recreational demand of the people, we should face up to its existence, and make efforts to avoid the negative effects brought by entertainment programs because of their characteristics similar to mass culture or consumer culture. Only in this way can we produce entertainment programs both comformig to the lusinen nature of television and having considerally high quality.
