With the exponential growth of data traffic, the primary services carried by the telecommunications transport network are migrating from the traditional voice traffic to the data traffic. This migration is causing two deep changes to the transport network: one is in terms of traffic volume; the other is related to the nature of traffic. The changes caused by the nature of data traffic, however, is much deeper. The self-similar, dynamical and burst natures of data traffic are totally different from those of voice traffic. They pose the challenges of dynamically provisioning traffic demands in real-time. Thus, the proposal of Optical Burst Switching (OBS) is straightforward.OBS technology combines the advantages of both optical circuit switching (OCS) and optical packet switching (OPS), while avoids their shortages. In OBS network, the small control packet, which is transmitted in advance, reserves the bandwidth resource of corresponding burst (far larger than control packet), and setups a link during limited period according control information, which is dynamic, flexible, oriented-connectionless, transparent. In one word, the essences of OBS are dynamic, flexible, oriented-connectionless, transparent wavelength bandwidth provision capability on demand。So far, research on OBS extends to review how the OBS network supporting current and future services. Therefore, on the basis of complete system analysis on current OBS technology, in this paper, deep research has been done on some key theories and technologies to be resolved in OBS network. And key modules and experimental hardware system are designed and implemented. Innovation mainly appears in the following aspects for this paper.(?) Design and implementation for the Optical Matrix unit of optical processing module in the OBSM node of CR/OBSM.(?) Design and implementation for the PCB board of electric processing module in the OBSM node of CR/OBSM.(?) Design and implementation for the OBS experimental system, with functional demonstration and performance test proving the OBS network advanced and feasible.
