The rapid development of Internet brings the opportunities to the network communications equipments. The appearance of varieties of network communications equipments meets the needs to the network construction, and the corresponding testing equipments for communications equipments come up with the communications equipments' appearance. It is possible to do the research on the testing platform using the embedded technology when the greater progress was made in the field of semiconductors. The subject of this paper is to research a kind of general testing platform for the network communications equipment based on the ARM and the operating system using the embedded technology.This testing platform includes two parts that are hardware and software research. In the hardware phase, the platform takes the ARM processor, S3C4510B microprocessor produced by Samsung Company, for the main controller. This platform contains 2M FLASH, 16M SDRAM, two RS232-UART interfaces, a S3C4510B embedded Ethernet interface origins, two expanded Ethernet interfaces and some circuits outside. The part of software research, the program for Boot Loader based on this system and the work for transplanting the uClinux embedded operating system to this platform has been done. Moreover, the driver program for the network interface in this system has finished. Finally, this testing platform established a software development environment based on uClinux, with the environment and the combination of upper-test software for communications equipment, this testing platform can complete the test function.
