Research On Topic Map-based Knowledge Management Of Course Realm

With the popularization of network technology and the improvement in the level of educational infomatization, the research on knowledge management in education field has been a hot spot in web-based instruction, which can help learners acquire knowledge and facilitate the knowledge communication and sharing among them, through the development of knowledge communication technology and its inner structure. As a significant teaching resource, domain knowledge is the basic prerequisite condition in developing web-based education smoothly. So it is particularly important to the knowledge management of course realm, and can directly affect the learning efficiency.However, there always exist some disadvantages in the domain knowledge management. Firstly, there is a lack of unified semantic description for the knowledge and resources due to the deposit of information, which causes difficulty in finding information users needed. Secondly, the knowledge in current knowledge base or data base is hard to be reused and shared, as well as maintained and updated, which badly influences the quality and efficiency of web-based education. What's more, the ratios of completeness and correctness in knowledge retrieving are low, and the retrieval results are in lack of semantic and context support.As a new method of knowledge representation and information organization, Topic Map provides a common and shared understanding of a single field. It's a reusable and sharable way to apply Topic Map to the science of knowledge engineering. Therefore, we use Topic Map technology to extract domain knowledge in a course and represent it in domain knowledge management, and provide a series of domain knowledge services to learners, which to a large extent facilitates the knowledge sharing and communicating, gives support to knowledge innovation, and finally improves web-based education by meeting the needs of it.In this thesis, we do some research on the Topic Map-based Knowledge Management of Course Realm (abbr. TMKMCR), in which Topic Map is introduced to the domain knowledge management. The research work includes the following aspects:Firstly, the main frame of TMKMCR is built corresponding to the knowledge management process, including three chief modules which called knowledge representation module, knowledge service module and knowledge maintenance module. And then the functions of those modules mentioned above are analyzed, as well as the formalization of that knowledge management model, from a whole view.Secondly, we have done some researches on those three modules respectively, which includes:①using Topic Map to represent domain knowledge in knowledge representation module, establishing Topic Map-based Knowledge Representation of Course Realm (abbr. TMKRCR) structure together with the formalization model, and doing some studies on the rules and properties in TMKRCR.②presenting the concept of knowledge service based on the created TMKRCR model, defining the type of knowledge services and its formalization form, and then implementing the function of knowledge positioning and resource associating in TMKMCR system according to the algorithms written ahead.③presenting a method of Topic Map Learning for Knowledge in Course Realm (abbr. TMLKCR), and realizing the semi-automatical generation of Topic Map through the processes of web pages partition, key words extraction, conversion and information integration, which aims at improving the efficiency of Topic Map constructing and maintaining, and at the same time providing support for the domain knowledge maintenance.Finally, a test system called TMKMCR-ES is designed and developed on the foundation of the works mentioned above, whose result suggests that TMKMCR system provide a feasible and effective method in raising learning efficiency, facilitating knowledge sharing and communicating, as well as improving the quality of education.Consequently, the providing of TMKMCR will improve the content structure of knowledge in course realm and accelerate the growth of web-based education, which has positive meaning to the development of intelligent, extendible and reusable courseware.
