Based on the general conditions of entomology journals included in SCI and its international effective, and actual information of these published Chinese papers in entomology journals included in SCI. It provides some useful value for Chinese entomological researchers to submit scientific papers to entomology journals indexed by SCI. By the method of bibliometrics, based on the networked database recorded by ISI Web of Science in the 2004 and the data in the 2004 edition of the ISI Journal Citation Reports (JCR 2004), the entomology journals indexed by SCI are analyzed statistically. According to Chinese papers published by entomology journals during the period from 2000 to 2004 collected in networked database recorded by ISI Web of Science, the information such as name of journals, publication years, authors' addresses, authors, cooperators and cited frequency are also analyzed statistically in this paper. The results are as follows:1. Sixty-seven kinds of entomology journals were indexed by SCI in 2004. Total of 67 entomology journals distributed in 14 countries and 28 of them (41.8%) distributed in USA. 37 of them (55.2%) were published quarterly.2. In 2004, 4187 papers were from 64 of total 67 journals indexed by SCI and the number of papers in every journal was 65. The number of papers in each journal indexed by SCI was 51% less than that indexed by JCR in 2004. 291 of papers were published in JOURNAL OF ECONOMIC ENTOMOLOGY. All papers from 64 journals indexed by SCI in 2004 were cited 70345 times. The mean value of cited frequency was 1099 times. The mean value of cited frequency in each journal indexed by SCI was 68.6% less than those indexed by JCR in 2004. 6930 times of cited frequency were from JOURNAL OF ECONOMIC ENTOMOLOGY. The total value of impact factors from 64 journals indexed by SCI in 2004 was 58.081. The mean value of impact factors in each journal indexed by SCI was 0.91 and about 45.5% less than that indexed by JCR in 2004. The highest influential factor journal was ANNUAL REVIEW OF ENTOMOLOGY from USA. The impact factor was 10.151. 3. Five hundred and forty-four papers written by Chinese researchers included in SCI entomology journals were published from 2000 to 2004, 422 of which were written and 122 of which were co-written by Chinese researchers; The journal accepted more Chinese entomology papers was ORIENTAL INSECTS. 58 Chinese entomology papers were published in ORIENTAL INSECTS, 26 papers were published in JOURNAL OF ECONOMIC ENTOMOLOGY and 23 papers were published in ENVIRONMENTAL ENTOMOLOGY; In 544 papers, 329 of them were completely written by Chinese researchers and 215 of them were co-written with foreign cooperators. It is suggests that the paper co-written with foreign cooperators was easy to be accepted by high impact factor journal. The number of papers written by Chinese researchers included in SCI entomology journals has gradually increased in recent years. Paper writers from China Academy of Sciences, universities and colleges account for 90.0%, 121 papers of 422 papers completely written by Chinese researchers were from Zoo Institute, China Academy of Sciences, and accounting for 28.6%. 544 papers written by Chinese researchers were cited 595 times by ISI, the average cited frequency was 1.1.The results showed that only a few of entomology journals are included in SCI, and no Chinese entomology journal is indexed by SCI. It is suggested that it is important to pay more attention to submitted papers quality than numbers.
