Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) is one of the most promising technique in wireless communications field in the new century. WLAN technology has certain advantage over traditional LAN.It has more flexible than cable networks. Its range of communication is not restrained by environmental conditions, network transmission area greatly expanded, the largest transmission area can reach several tens of kilometers. Nowadays, WLAN has been widely applied in all sorts of military and civilian fields. Now, high-speed wireless network transmission rate has been fully able to meet the general requirements of the transmission network, including transmission text, voice, images and so on.WLAN facilitates the convenience of the Internet environment to the users, the attendant security issues have also become the focus of attention. The same as cable networks, the security of wireless networks is the ultimate result, users naturally very concerned about this issue. Compared with the cable networks, wireless networks faced to security risk are more greater and security issues more larger. Currently, there are a wide range of WLAN security solutions, but each has emerged unable to solve security loopholes. Now, the WLAN security is a major obstacle to development. How to achieve the WLAN comprehensive and effective security protection is the key to develop WKAN.This paper first review WLAN standards and technique. Elaborate WLAN security situation. Introduce WLAN unlimited knowledge based on the IEEE 802.11 protocol, the existence of WLAN security and the use of security technology. Indicate the current 802.11 wireless LAN standards in ensuring the safety of users access functions has advantages and shortcomings. Describe as a one-way authentication, WEP encryption mechanism and static key for the allocation of WLAN security threats. This paper focuses on the authentication of protocol 802.1x, AES encryption algorithm and RADIUS protocol. There is in-depth research and analysis that is contraposed the current high security EAP-TLS authentication. Improve the way of EAP-TLS authentication process against its potential safety problems. Put forward a third-party certification agencies assisting in the implementation of PKI authentication, realize authentication server and Access Point a two-way authentication, significantly enhancing the WLAN security. This paper presents a specific WLAN security system, freeRADIUS organizations with the open source software freeRadius as background authentication server, using 802.1x Authentication and AES encryption algorithm to enhance wireless LAN security.
