The boiler is important burning equipment in a power plant. Its combustion condition has a direct effect to the safety, economy and environmental protections of the power plant. So the effective equipment is needed to detect its combustion states. Flame Detector, which scans the flame states on-line, is the core part of Furnace Safeguard Supervisory System (FSSS). How to improve the correct rate is the most urgent problem to solve.Nowadays, the photoelectric flame detector is widely used in the power plants. The principle is to analyze the intensity or flicker frequency of radiation. But the actual operation shows that this kind of detector is not very correct and occurs accidents at times. In order to accurately identify the states, it is needed to adopt an effective signal processing method.In this paper chaos theory is adopted to analyze the actual flame signal of different combustion states. And it proves the boiler flame signal belongs to chaos system. So the phase-space reconstruction theory is used for analyzing the flame signal. The results show that the phase-space maps (PSMs) of stable combustion are wider than the PSMs of unstable combustion. And the correlation dimensions (CDs) of stable combustion are bigger than CDs of unstable combustion. Therefore, the phase-space reconstruction method can distinguish the different combustion states of the flame in the boiler furnace. It solves the inaccuracy problem of equipments in existence and provides a new method to the combustion diagnosisTo design the intelligent flame detector based on the phase-space reconstruction, PIC is adopted as the micro processor. It integrates the single components of flame detector on one body. So it accords with the international popularity tend of the same kinds of advanced products. It realizes the functions of signal sample, processing, displaying and outputting, parameters setting and so on. And the software system designed combined with its hardware system.The experiment proves that the flame detector mentioned in this paper is performances better than traditional detector and realizes the expected design aim.
