Residual chlorine is one of the important parameter for tap water and waste water. This thesis introduces the design principle, measuring method and system structure of examining residual chlorine equipment. Two efficient methods based on electrochemistry analytical method and DPD spectral photometric method for examining residual chlorine were discussed. The typical circuit structure and related source code for the two methods were given.Electrode method is the most efficient way for online examining residual chlorine which based on the method of oxidation-reduction potential method. The designed hardware includes preamplifier circuit, low pass filter circuit, potentiostat circuit, pH value amplifier, water temperature measue circuit, TLC2543 based AD converter, 4-20mA circuit, real-clock circuit, RS-232 communication circuit and display circuit. The detailed hardware circuit and software design method was given in every part. The online residual chlorine measurement apparatus designed upon the electrode method has the outstanding characteristics of steady function, advanced technology, easy use, and the precision can be 0.10 mg/L after adjusting correctly. The apparatus can be used to examining total and free residual chlorine in tap water, waste water and cooling water.The principle of DPD spectral photometric method for examining residual chlorine is that the DPD reagent becomes red as it meets with the free chlorine, adds iodic ion as activator to make combined chlorine reaction and display color. Then obtain free and total chlorine through photoelectric sensor or spectrophotometer to measure absorbency. Subtract free chlorine from total is combined chlorine. The principle can be used to measue free, total and combined chlorine from tap water, sea water, source water and waste water. The thesis discusses the hardware circuit and main program of potable chlorine analyzer based on DPD spectral photometric method, including preamplifier circuit, sample circuit, negative high voltage circuit, stepping motor drive circuit, display unit and serial communication circuit etc. The chlorine analyzer has the characteristics of high precision and easy use.The design of online residual chlorine analyzer based on the electrode method was designed according to the auto-monitoring system communication protocol for the environment protection bureau of Anhui Province. The measured data sends to the local monitor center through GPRS wireless network. The data of chlorine analyzer based on DPD spectral photometric method is processed by upper-computer, which provides more arithmetic to analyze the data and use Visual C++ as the development platform. The potable chlorine analyzer can be used for environment protection department and chemical laboratory.
