The visualization method combined with Virtual Reality and Realistic modeling is called Immersive Visualization. It can better solve the visualization problems appeared in the design task of CAE field. However, as to the data field in the immersive visualization environment, especially to the large scale data field, if using Surface Fitting and Volume Rendering method, some disadvantages of the visualization quality and efficiency will be brought. Therefore, the walk-through visualization method based on geometric model is proposed.The walk-through visualization method, by constructing an environment which can be walked-through, joins the data field and geometric model together. With the current viewpoint and direction of the line of sight, only the visible data set should be processed, so it improves the efficiency of visualization. Besides, the method distinctly reserves the information of the geometric model, so that the researchers can pay more attention to the inner details of the data field, and the quality of the visualization is also improved. The main content are as follows:(1) A new visualization method used in immersive visualization environment called geometric-model-based walk-through visualization is proposed. By constructing the virtual environment which can be walked-through, only the visible data set according to the current viewpoint and direction of the line of sight will be synthesize into texture, then the texture will be mapped into the surface of the geometric model. After that, the researchers can walk through the environment to complete the visualization of data field.(2) A new imitated uniformity triangulation refinement algorithm for the walk-through visualization mesh model is proposed. The geometric model enclosing the data field will be processed in order to ensure the final visualization result, so that it will avoid the aftereffect caused by bad mesh geometric model.(3) Research on the methods which are used to accelerate the walk-through visualization. By applying texture mapping, visibility calculating, LOD calculating methods to the visualization process, the efficiency is greatly improved.
