This paper presents design of visual modeling software based on OpenGL for the solution of problems in FDTD under Cartesian coordinates. Respectively, FDTD is currently one of the most popular techniques for the analysis of electromagnetic phenomena, and OpenGL is industry standard widely used in computer graphics field.In the paper, OpenGL and Visual Basic are used to design software, while several problems on FDTD modeling have been solved through design of software.Goal of designing visual modeling software is providing for FDTD simulator with datum such as media, meshes, boundary, source etc, and improving quality of visual modeling graphics. So, the software provides user simple and effective modeling tool, which is used to generate uniform and non-uniform meshes automatically meeting to FDTD method, and provides user several kinds of excellent graphics view on modeling object such as rotating object, moving object, zooming object etc. It also provides user several kinds of view on a modeling object such as line type, solid type, mesh type etc.Through modeling, simulating and datum processing of inductor, coupler and patch antenna in the paper, it indicates that FDTD visual modeling software is precise and efficient.
