With the fast development of computer science and network technology, the demands for high performance, large-scale, diversity and multi-functionality of applications become more and more urgently. In order to get high computing performance and solve complicated problems, a specific technology intends to connect the high-performance computing resources, storage resources, data resources and other resources, which are geographical distributed and heterogeneous, through high-speed network. This technology is called grid computing.Resource management stands in the core of grid system. It includes the activities of organizing, locating, detecting, scheduling, distributing, confirming resources, preparing and creating processes for the resources. Resource management model offers the functions and concepts of management. In order to reach the goal of resources sharing, administrators need to ensure the rational allocating and accurate using resources by taking advantage of the management software which based on pre-defined standards to manage those resources. Because grid logically connects multiple kinds of resources which belong to different organizations and owners, resource management model determines the success of grid system directly. Researching on the key technologies of grid resource management has practical meanings with great importance and urgency. This dissertation mainly studies the grid resource management model which based on computational economy. In general grid system, the relationship between resources providers and consumers is different from it in specific grid system whose relationship generally stays stable, it changes dynamically. According to real-time requirements, the roles of resources providers and consumers change constantly, and they can join or quit the grid system dynamically. In order to utimately profit both sides of resources providers and consumers, this model assorts with the relationship between providers and consumers based on the economic priciples of supplies and demands. In the environment of market economy, consumers want minimum costs and providers want maximum gains on investments. So it requires grid system to provide appropriate tools and services for resources providers and comsumers to express their requirements. Therefore, resources exchange which based on economical intermedium is a way to resolve the problem of dynamic resources management. This paper discusses the concept of grid, its development stage, domestic and global research status at the beginning. It elaborates the related knowledge and technical characteristics of resource management, discusses the idea of designing grid resource management model, and explains the function requirements and development status of grid resource management model. On the basis of above theories, the grid resource management model based on computational economy and the resources scheduling policy based on economic utility function are put forward. The functionality, designing process and work flow of every module in the model are expounded in detail. A resource management simulator"E-GridSim"which based on GridSim system is also put forward. We implemented the basic functions of E-GridSim by J2SDK 1.5.0 SE and tested it in Windows platform. The results of the simulator show that the model of E-GridSim behaves better than the traditional GRACE model in resource efficiency, task proportion, user QoS needs and financial budgets.
