Wireless Mesh Network(WMN), is a type of network which links routers and terminal equipments with wireless multi-hop links. It is a new broad bandwidth distributing wireless access network system, and is a wireless version of the Internet as a static wireless network. It can be considered as a integration of WLAN and MANET. WMN has features of reliability,self-organization and self-healing. Comparing with the traditional wired,wireless network,WMN has unparalleled advantages and is more convenient and low-cost.WMNs have a wide range of potential applications for the Wireless Personal Area Network,LAN,even MAN,providing wireless broadband access service. Currently, research of WMN is very active all across the world, and gradually developed into commercial and civilian application stage. In the meantime, the relevant international standards about WMN is being developed. In Chapter 2 of this article, more details of WMN will be given.Routing protocol is one of the key technologies in WMN which will play a very important role in its network performance. WMN is a special form of MANET, it inherited many of the characteristics of MANET. Traditional routing protocols of MANET are still usable in WMNs, but it is better to consider their uniqueness. For this reason, the design principle,ideas and trends of WMN routing protocols were analysed and lucubrated in this paper. After a general introduction of two types of routing protocols(Table Driven,On Demand-driven) for MANET, three typical MANET routing protocols(DSDV,AODV,DSR) were used in WMN. They were simulated by NS2 which is a popular network simulation tool,and their performance were analysed. Then, based on the characteristics of WMN , a Protocol-based DSR Multi-gateway Anycast Multi-path Source Routing Protocol MAMSR was designed and simulated in NS2. The simulation results show it can solve the congestion problem effectively in single gateway and keep the access network working effectively and stably under high Packet Mailing Rate,low Average Routing Overhead and Average Delay.
