Scene simulation is an important method to represent warfare simulations. The technologies involved computer graphics, physics modeling, military modeling, graphic hardware, etc. Through it people can get a vivid representation of the simulation progress and final results. According to researches down on warfare simulation, the usage of scene simulation technology is an efficient way to reduce the development period, improve the quality and save costs on tests and development. Also it offers an effective method and platform for training and exercise.High Level Architecture (HLA) is the best platform for distributed simulation applications. The development of a general purpose warfare scene simulation tools based on HLA is one of the current trends for scene simulation research. This thesis analyses the requirements in the fields of warfare simulation. Also it studies the functions, scene management mathods, key technologies and algorithms of special effects, view point management and ways to implement the scene simulation tools based on HLA.Firstly, this thesis gives a brief introduction to the current situation in the field of the warfare simulation and general purpose scene simulation tools'research based on HLA all over the world. Based on the requirements of warfare simulation, it points out the essential points and key technologies to be solved in this research, designs the functions and user interfaces such as modeling of scene simulation, structure, and ways to realize the function and general information flow.Secondly, the method to generate realistic scenes and the implementation method for a general-purpose software are studied, such as large-scale terrain generation and entity modeling, special effect generation, dynamic models, etc. A solution with practicbility is proposed. In considering a wider application field among different warfare domains and federations, this thesis introduces a solution with general application, as well as special effect and environment management methods and viewpoint control method.Finally, with the OpenGL,Vega Prime and MFC development toolkits, we realized the scene simulation tools based on HLA according to the model and algorithm. The thesis introduces the development process of the scene tools accompanied with examples.In the end, further work and research direction are being indicated in the summary.
