Optical communication technology is a hotspot in modern digital communications. It has acquired intensive research interesting and has been widely applied. At present stage, most obsolete PDH system has been replaced with SDH technology. The application of PDH has generally been shifted from long-distance transmission network to connect and local transmission network gradually.In recent years, more and more colleges, research institutions and communication devices manufacturers focus their efforts on optical communication devices. Device supervision unit plays a very important role. This thesis mainly discusses the design and realization of a high performance but low cost supervision unit in SDH multiplexier .The thesis firstly introduces basic knowledge of SDH , and the knowledge of structure of SDH multiplexier and function requests of network supervision unit. Then the design and realization of hardware are described. In the following chapter, VHDL program design of CPLD module for the implementation of high speed SPI interface is illuminated in detail. The firmware of the MCU (Micro Controller Unit) is also designed in particular. Finally, the feasibility of the design is validated via the demonstration of debugging and testing.
