Jiefang Daily is the first large-scale newspaper of the Chinese Communist Party, which has a significant historical status. Being a governmental newspaper of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, it has a mission of reflecting people's lives, maintaining the close ties with the masses, in order to organize and rally the people with the paper. In addition, the most important is to carry out criticism and self-criticism aiming at raising the prestige of the Party. It is a significant means to supervise the society through the media and also an important aspect of building up the authority and the effectiveness of the Party newspaper and plays necessary functions of supervision and propaganda.Chapter Two to Six makes chronologically a trimming and an analysis as well on the Jiefang Daily of different stages in terms of the quantity, forms and contents of its critical reports, and at the mean time, it approaches the influences of factors such as politics, economy and culture on the critical report and explores reasons behind them. Chapter Three and Chapter Five particularly analyze the critical report during the Rectification Movement and the new changes in form of the critical report after it was resumed and developed since 1944 and 1945. Based on a careful neatening of the development of Jiefang Daily, this essay summarizes the causes, categories, mainstreams, purposes, attitudes, approaches, effects, characteristics and deficiencies of Jiefang Daily's critical report. The critical report of Jiefang Daily established a model for the newspaper critic and also laid a foundation.
