In recent years, video surveillance system has been used extensively in every field, which mainly used for security system, information acquisition and so on. Rapid development of technology in the video, network and embedded system is a great promotion for the improvement process of video surveillance technology, and the developmental trend of video surveillance towards to digital, networking, and intelligence.Based on the analyses of the current development of video surveillance, the paper bring forward a solution which is made up of embedded ARM MCU and webcam with USB interface, and we can visit and control the system through Web browser. This scheme adopts 32bit high-performance ARM7 of Philips as microprocessor, adoptsμClinux as operating system, adopts webcam to gather video data and use JPEG protocol to realize the compression of the video picture. The server of the system runs an embedded web server which transmit video information through the network, users can make use of Web Page which contain Java Applet to realize remote surveillance. The system has low cost, high capacity and efficiency and is easy to use.In this paper, we detailed introduce the solution from its collectivity design, division of modules of software and hardware, to the design and coding of software modules. And then, we especially expatiate development process of main software modules, and provide codes. At the end of the paper, we point out some problems existing in this system and put forward the suggestion on the next work.
