Streaming media refers to video/audio media that plays while downloading. Streaming media technology includes encoding method suitable for network transfer, QoS control method and protocols. Streaming media software platforms generally are based on Client/Server model, which has the server-side resource bottleneck. Other models such as IP broadcast and CDN are also proposed to overcome the shortcoming, but they all have other drawbacks. A new proposed model—P2P network provides a new solution for the problem.P2P, or Peer to Peer means hosts provide service for each other. It pushes the service from center to the edge of network, and takes advantage of the resource on the edge. P2P network has a wide range of use, and has many models, each with its character. This paper discusses a P2P streaming media system—PPVideo, which broadcast streaming media on P2P network. This paper discussed the key problems of P2P streaming media system: single-source/multi-source transfer, media source location, source node selection, data transfer allocation, incentive mechanism, digital property preservation, and presented the solution of PPVideo system. PPVideo uses a central directory server. Data is transferred among peers in a P2P way. PPVideo uses multi-source model, source peer selection on AS number, data transfer allocation priorities play back sequence, "pay back" incentive mechanism, to improve data transmision. Lastly, this paper presented the model, communication protocol, and implementation technology of PPVideo.
