Millimeter wave system has small wavelengths, wide bandwidths, small equipment volume, light weight and good flexibility. It can provide greater resolution and precision. Because of those advantages, millimeter-wave systems have played more and more important roles in military or civil domain. The application and development of solid-state millimeter wave systems depend a lot on its output power, Howerer the output power from a single solid-state device is limited,so it is necessary to combine several devices to achieve high-power level.In this dissertation we need to carry out power combining and amplifying between 31 GHz and 37GHz of Ka band. High output power and combining effiency are required.Circuit combining techniques is adopted in this thesis. after analying the combining effiency of power splitter, we reach a conclusion that a lower lossless 3dB power divider is the key point of the design. The performace of several of the most common types of dividers are analyzed and simulated at first, and then we design an improved 2-way eaqul-divided Wilkinson power divider, we use this unit to construct 2-way and 4-way power dividing/combining networks that our task demands.Two common methods in designing power amplifier are presented in this paper. And then we design two power amplifiers using those methods. Finally we design the amplifier test unit using triquint's MMIC TGA4517, Which is wanted in our task. And then we finish the 2-way and 4-way power combining amplifier design and simulate their performance.For some reasons, we haven't finished the test work of our products, so thers is no correlated results in this dissertation. However, we finish the test of an X band 10 watts power combining amplifer. The testing results of this amplifier are given and some tips and experience in tesing power amplifier are also smmuraized. This has a lot of reference value to our practise work. The testing results of our products will reported in later in correlated magazines.We also sum up our works in this thesis and propose some demands in the future work.
