The Multi-Passive-Sensor Location System (MPSLS) has the capabilities against electronic reconnaissance and interference, stealth aerial weapon, anti-radiation missile, and low-altitude breakthrough. As a supplement to radar, it will play very important roles during a war, which is one of the focuses in modern defense system. Techniques for multi-sensor passive location are gaining more and more attention. To fit the needs for the construction of infrared surveillance and early-warning system, several algorithms for engineering applications have been presented in this paper. Firstly, the basic theory about space location, the expression of locating error, and data-preprocessing for multi-sensor system are introduced. Secondly, the common methods for passive targets location are studied. A new algorithm based on line-plane intersection is presented here, which can achieve both high location precision and low time consumption. Thirdly, an optimum siting of sensors based on the error transmission coefficient is proposed for multi-sensor passive location, which is further derived for two-sensor situation. At last, we suggest to use EKF or SDREF based algorithms for passive target tracking, and the classical Hough transform based method for eliminating the ghosts in MTT. The experimental results show the effectiveness and practicability of the proposed methods.
