A modern enterprise manufacturing system is an integrated application of modern machine manufacturing, computer science and administration engineering, involving complicated techniques and huge amounts of investment, which makes it obviously uneconomical and risky to build physical systems for research. Thus, computer simulation is indispensable to the research and development, planning, design, operating management and scheduling of modern enterprise manufacturing systems. Computer simulation is an important means for ensuring reasonable design, high efficient operation and optimum economical result of manufacturing systems. As manufacturing systems become more sophisticated, requirements for computer simulation are more stringent. Conventional simulation with a single computer is no longer suitable for these requirements. One of the major developments in simulation is distributed simulation, which is aimed to greatly increase efficiency in modeling and simulation. Based on this aim, distributed simulation software applications oriented manufacturing system multiple product line have been developed.Using object oriented and multi-thread techniques, this paper provides an implementation method of distributed simulation system based on a workshop multiple product line containing limited buffer. The system is comprised of a number of computers in a LAN, each of which simulates one product line, and computer is used as a system server for control and coordinating the operation of the simulation system. Productivity and performance in different scheduling policies of a product line can be predicted before the commencement of production through the simulation software. This paper, firstly describes the concept, characteristics and application in manufacturing industry of system simulation and distributed simulation, and sets out an overall framework for software implementation. Objects in the design product line are then analyzed in detail according to the object oriented method, and critical techniques involved in the system, such as multi-thread, multi-task, network communication and clock synchronization, etc. are analyzed as well. Thereafter, detail description is given to the software design and implementation of the system. Lastly, this paper explains how to use the software, gives several simple examples of system operation, and points out some deficiencies of the system and improvements to be made.
