The NC engraving system based on the image information under the PC environment was developed in this paper.This system take the Chinese characters as the main object,and combined with the digital image processing, vectorization, optimization algorithm and machining simulation technology.A new way to realize engraving machining was proposed.According to the characteristic that the boundary outline was expressed by chain code after digital image processing, the corner detection algorithm was advanced and accomplished by adopting chain code sum and chain code difference. In addition,the threshold value assertion and false corner elimination was deeply researched.Corner detection results indicated that this method could quickly and accurately realize corner detection, so ensured the feature point no missing.In the interest of best in line with the original object feature as well as conveniencing to the downstream process,the image border vectorization algorithm was presented with the method of subsection double circular arc fitting,which based on the corner detection and feature point set establishing.Tool path generation method was advanced in this paper,which adopted the stroke milling to fill the regions and the ring cutting to finish the back gouging.Because of the character of large region and multi edge angle for machining object, the course of working was divided into two steps of rough machining and finish machining for the purpose of satisfying the both requirements of working efficiency and accuracy.Tool path optimization model was established based on the machining region blocking.The tool path optimization was realized by adopting genetic algorithm, and the code rule and genetic operater was designed.Simulation results shown that optimization effectively shorten the vacancy cutting feed travel.The X3D technology was embeded in the vc++6.0 environment to realize the working simulation.finally,the software system was developed.This system was able to auto-completethe functions of image processing, vectorization,tool path generation and optimization and machining simulation.Experiments on the NC machine tool shown that the methods and ideas raised in this paper was effective and feasible.
