Since the introduction of the first digital level by Leica in1990,this type of equipment has rapidly gained acceptance because it has many advantages such as high precision,fast measurement speed and simple operation. All kinds of code-bar grade rodes for digital levels, whose code structure are various, are always detected from the information of the code ,realize the functions of reading data fast, exactly and automatically. Code-bar grade rodes are the working standard apparatus in the high measurement, which are used in the detecting based on width and position of code-bar invar grade rod stripes. The error of code-bar grade rod stripes is one of the digital levels errors. It is premise of the digital levels being use that both new code-bar grade rodes and in use are detecting periodly.The traditional methods used for leveling rod inspection employ the visual-reading microscope and the double-frequency laser interferometer to measure in static state or dynamic state. For code-bar grade rod's unequal width and interval, the method of using photoelectric microscope to measure it in dynamic state is under research. Up to the present ,no successful reports have issued.For the automatic detecting for the edge of code-bar grade rodes, a feedback system that the double-frequency laser interferometer is taken for the position detecting sensor is promoted. Different moving regulation is adopted in different conditions, which resolve the contradiction between measuring precision and efficiency, and automation in image detection is achieved. In addition, for the defect of code-bar detecting, a way named edge-tracking is promoted to obtain the information of edge. The method resolve the problem of edge detecting well, and adapt most of conditions. Experimental results show that the system and the method make a breakthrough in man-made detecting for the code-bar grade rods, and automation in image static detection is achieved, and open a door for precise and efficient detecting for the edge of code-bar grade rods, and coordinate the measuring precision and the efficiency. When thedouble-frequency laser interferometer is used to detect the code bar grade rod, a method using electromotor and image is proposed to promote the system. For one thing, the method using image can eliminate the effect of interference by the operator and improve measuring precision. For another, the worktable controlled by the electromotor move automatically, which can promote efficiency greatly. Many experimental results show that the system is an effective way to detect the code bar grade automatically, and is applied to the measurement.
