Wireless communication has gained great success in providing voice service for people, however, the next generation of wireless communication is to serve people higher transmit speed for multimedia services. To some extent, the WLAN and the WIMAX have met people's need, but they are too seriously depending on the wired infrastructure to be widely used. Fortunately, wireless mesh networks (WMN) can solve this kind of problem by transmitting information hop by hop through wireless channel. It can decrease the dependency of wired networks. Moreover, for the advantages of high frequency efficiency, large covering field, excellent expansibility and strong reliability, it has been increasingly popular with people who want to deploy wireless network. The development of wireless mesh networks came of the research in Ad hoc networks. It applies the advantages of Ad hoc networks into accessing to Internet, and adds the"centralizing element"to the distributing networks. So, as same as the Ad hoc networks, an efficient and secure routing protocol is one of the most important factors to ensure the wireless mesh network run successfully. Most recent the research in routing for WMN has mainly focused on improving the protocol efficiency. This dissertation is mainly about the secure routing for wireless mesh networks. Firstly, the article introduces the architecture, the characters and the key techniques of wireless mesh networks; Secondly, the main routing protocols in distributing networks are described and a performance comparison of the protocols is made, then the HRPU protocol is described detailed; In the fourth chapter, an analysis of the threaten on the routing for wireless mesh networks is made, from which the design criterion is concluded; Lastly, a secure routing strategy based on the HRPU protocol is proposed.
