With the development of uncooled focal plane array (UFPA), the application of infrared technology becomes wider and wider. The main disadvantage of UFPA is its inherent nonuniformity. This paper firstly introduced the development of infrared thermal imaging technique, researched the principle and working of infrared focal plane array, and analyzed the engendered reasons of infrared nonuniformity. Then, it researched some main methods of nonuniformity correction and detecting approach and compensation of blind-pixel of focal plane array, and the techniques of infrared image processing. The researched detector of this paper is the France ULIS Company's 320×240 uncooled microbolometer focal plane array detector. The main study is focusing on correcting the nouniformity and enhancing the infrared image of the output signal. Contraposed to this study, this paper finally programmed two-point correction, two-point plus one-point correction,full-scale non-uniformity correction and infrared image histogram equalization enhancement using FPGA, and it also compared these three correction methods.
