H.264/AVC is the latest video coding standard of ITU-T and ISO. Comparing with other current standards, it could provide a better compression performance and a"networks friendly"video representation. However, the packet-loss by the practical IP channel may lead to a substantial reduction in the reconstructed images quality, and the error may also have a bad effect on the following reconstructed images. Therefore, the research on the effective packet-loss resilience methods is of great importance in both theory and practice. The theory and implementation methods of H.264 video coding standard are deeply studied in this paper. Based on an introduction to the packet-loss resilience algorithms of H.264, the author makes a discussion on the principle of temporal error-propagation. Through experiments and analysis, an interactive, adaptive, intra-refreshing and reference-region-based method (IAIR) is put forward. A packet-loss resilience video communication system (PRVCS) is given in the last part of the paper based on the algorithms presented before. The result of simulation experiments shows that IAIR could increase PSNR of the reconstructed images effectively in case of a high packet-loss rate. And PRVCS could ensure the reconstructed video QoS efficiently with little increase in the transport bitrate. These algorithms mentioned in this paper are compatible with the video coding standard H.264, and therefore is available in practice.
