The technology of Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET) comes from Mobile Packet Radio Network ( a term originated from early military research in early 70's and 80's), Mobile Ad Hoc Network is self-organized, mutli-hops, active-topologized and operated without a fixed base .The technology of Mobile Ad Hoc Network is mainly used in military .disaster recovery (e.g. earthquake, flood) because it can be rapidly deployed survivable. Specially, Mobile Ad Hoc Network is extensively used in industrial and commercial field because it is inexpensive and can be deployed flexibly. This paper focuses on the route technology which is the key technology in Mobile Ad Hoc Network. Reactive routing protocol can effectively reduce the overhead of traffic for controlling in Mobile Ad Hoc Network, compared with proactive routing protocol. I studied the currently popular AODV routing protocol, in which the time spent on finding the proper route as well as the protocol efficiency was reduced after the system adapted Hello message mechanism. This paper compared the three models of AODV routing protocol in different network scales and environments. This paper also compared AODV with such reactive routing protocol as DSR and TORA to seek the rules in them which made practical sense to the design and configuration of Ad Hoc network. Finally, I summarized the job of this paper, and provided some suggestions for the future research .I also proposed a new idea of route maintenance to reduce the time delay of Mobile Ad Hoc Network when a active route break, which is based on HELLO message in AODV routing protocol.
