For the normal monopulse radar, it is hard to distinguish the multiple targets located in one resolution cell and the same beam. Commonly, the methods to enhance the angle resolving capability will increase the bulk, weight and complication of radar greatly. For this, the paper aims to study the solution of detection after the radar has followed the target, the returns from two or more targets when the signals can not be resolved in both frequency and time domains. Under the current theory basis and research equipment, it can be realized by method of signal processing, with an effective detection algorithm to enhance the detection ability of monopulse radar.Based on introduction of the principium and composition of the monopulse radar, the paper analyses the pattern of fluctuation targets and the detection performance of it. Adopt the generalized maximum likelihood radio test based on the Neyman-Pearson algorithm, to study two unresolved Rayleigh targets. And deduced the detection statistic which is chi-square random variable, which only need to know the conditional probability density functions of echo's measured amplitude, in-phase and quadrature of monopulse radio, but the signal-to-noise radio and the direction-off-arrival of any signal are unnecessary. The simulation results of receiver operating characteristic curve explain that the algorithm has very good detection performance. Then, using the stationary false alarm and pulse accumulation technique could solve the detection problem of unresolved targets in a certain extent. Then, apply the algorithm to the condition that returns from unresolved multi-target, and the unresolved swerlingIV targets after approximated. Through Monte Carlo simulation, it was certificated that both have good detection effect. The detection probability of multi-target not always higher then that of two unresolved targets, the signal-to-noise radio of two targets separated maximal angle has most influence to the detection probability. The ways and means in this paper are straightforward and easy to implement, the necessary prior knowledge of targets is less, and it could enhance the angle resolving capability. At the present time, it is the comparatively ideal theory...
