In recent years, with the development of micro-electro-mechanism system (MEMS),wireless communication technology and digital electronic technology and relative technology,it is possible to integrate the computing, communication, networking and sensing into one tiny embedded device. Wireless sensor network is a new research field which refers to those technologies. Standards IEEE 802.15.4 is the wireless communication standard for low-rate wireless personal area networks.Developmemt of radio sensor networks in past years has been summarized and IEEE 802.15.4 standard is emphasized. The application of the protocol using C language has also completed. The thesis is organized as following. The network framework and the characterization of radio sensor networks are analyzed, and a summarization of the application and key technologies of radio sensor networks are given. The protocol of MAC layer of radio sensor networks is studied in chapter 2 and three classic MAC protocols: TDMA,S-MAC and T-MAC are focused on.Based on the IEEE 802.15.4 standard of low rate radio personal location networks, the framework of the frame in physical layer, MAC layer, the transmission model and the services provided by the standard are analyzed in chapter 3.A detailed analysis of the models in both physical and MAC layer is given in chapter 4 and the application of IEEE 802.15.4 standard is implemented. Firstly, data transmission and reception, and the management of data frame and the access of channels are emphasized. For the simulation of the radio channel, the WinSocket communication model is designed. Finally, communication between different models in protocol stacks is completed by multi-task operation system.
