Since the concept"Feel China"was put forward in China, the Internet of Things has become one of the five new national strategic industries. Wireless sensor network, as the most important of the Internet of Things, has entered the stage of rapid development. Wireless sensor network is composed of a large of sensor nodes. Each node perceives, acquires and processes information of monitoring objects, and transfers it to the staff by network. So it is very important to research MAC controller in wireless sensor network. This paper describes and realizes it on FPGA. The following work has been done: Firstly, the hardware implementation of MAC controller based on IEEE 802.15.4 protocol is proposed in this paper. Secondly, IEEE 802.15.4 protocol is analyzed. It prescribes functions of the media access control (MAC) layer and physical (PHY) layer. Finally, this paper specifies that MAC controller is divided into data packet transmitting module, data packet receiving module, control module and interface module according to MAC layer functions and the module design idea. The control module implemented by the design idea of coprocessor is the core of MAC controller. The data transmission module is mainly responsible for frame package and data reception module for frame solution. Interface module includes MCU interface and PHY chip interface. The entire design process is completed in the Quartus II from development to function simulation. Simulation results show that the stack module functions have achieved the desired results. And this controller can complete MAC layer's funtion.
